About

In the context: I am asking someone a pendrive to store some file in it.

When I asked peter about a pendrive, he said/replied that he didn't have it.

Is this correct? Can we say here without "about"?

I asked Peter about a pendrive. This means I wanted information, eg Where is it? What colour is it?

I ask
