Is it necessary to use "about"? in the following sentence?

It depends on the situation.

think like this.

1.if the conversation is about English grammar. you can ask Do you have any questions you want to ask me about English grammar?

or

2.if it is a normal conversation you can ask it without using "about".

It's not only unnecessary but wrong in that context.

John asked Bob a question.

I asked Bob (a question) about John's question.

So, we ask a question, or ask (a question) about something.
