When I play cricket with my 4 year old we pretend to play from different teams mostly India and England.

Which article is correct and please also explain why?

I am a/the/nil winner.

"I am winner" is not grammatical.

"I am the winner" means that you have won a particular game or contest.

"I am a winner" means that you have the general qualities or attributes of someone who wins or is likely to win (or so you claim). It could also mean that you have won something jointly with other people (e.g. in a lottery with several winners).
