a word for sujet

What word is used in English for the french word "sujet"? It's used in other languages, too, but it seems to me that not in English.

It must be so, however in my language it's used a bit differently. So then my question: how is it called when a plot of a story is written very shortly, roughly outlined?

eg an outline

You could also look at the words summary and synopsis.

Yes, they really cover the thing I've said, but I'm sorry, let me specify it more. "Synopsis," if I'm notmistaken, is a professioanal summary, but I mean a summary made hastily. If there is some special word. But if not, it's not a problem.

I would say eg a quick /.rough summary.
