"A smartly dressed girl, fresh from sailing on the Sound, spoke in a more current idiom: 'I would like to ride in the plane that would atom-bomb Western culture.' (...)

"The third remark completes the triangle. At his desk in a Fifth Avenue office the head of one of the many foundations in this region ended the late afternoon with this question: 'How can we keep America young?' (...)

"Too much is not to be made of these remarks. New Yorkers, like other people, seldom talk this way. A word count on the subway or Times Square or any beach would show that such extreme language is 'statistically infrequent.'"

2. What does "a word count" mean in the context?

1-- Don't believe that these remarks are typical 2-- 'Word count' is the wrong phrase here-- it simply means counting the number of different words and the number of instances of use of each word.

Hi Cadzao,
I hope you are well.

1. Could you please rephrase the blue sentence? Don't attach too much importance to these remarks.

2. What does "a word count" mean in the context? It just means 'if you count all the different words that you hear in those places'.

Best wishes, Clive
