A while back

- I was raised on classic music country and have always loved it. A while back I had the opportunity to record the Buck Owen Classic.

- Does "a while back" always mean "Not long time ago"?

Thanks very much to Teachers,

A while back = at some time in the past; how long ago would be relative to each situation . I wouldn't use it to refer to time as far back as several years.

I agree with Philip, but would also add that "a while back" would be further in the past than yesterday, and probably also further in the past than last week.
