a very short letter-have to send it today....please help

Hi:) I am wondering if you could check my e-mail to the recruitment officer with whom I spoke last week. I gave him my CV and he sent it to the potential employer. I would like to know what decision they made. Therefore, I wrote an informal e-mail to the recruitment ofiicer. I'll be pleased if you could help me to improve it. Thank you:)

Dear John,

I tried to catch you in the office today but unfortunately you were out. I am just wondering whether you are still considering me as a candidate for the position of Data Entry Clerk. I yes, I would like to confirm that I am still available and able to start immediately.

Regards,

Your grammar is fine, but may I suggest: Dear John, I tried to reach you in the office today, but unfortunately you were out. I wanted to aks whether I am still a candidate for the Data Entry Clerk position. I so, I would like to confirm that I am still very interested.
