A very little

Do you suggest putting "a" in the sentence or just leave it out or it is optional?

I have a very little knowledge about Thai cuisine.

I have a very little knowledge about Thai cuisine. Personally, I'm strongly for leaving it out in this particular sentence. "Of" would be more natural than "about" in this case, but "about" works.
