There is an expression in my language which means 'a very beautiful/expensive/attractive thing in a deserted or ugly place'. For example, someone builds a huge villa in a very humble area.

Is there any expression in English that carries the same meaning/flavor?

A rose among the thorns is the closest I can think of.
