A verb to describe fastening action

Could anyone help me to find a verb (if exist) denoting an action to place an object in a defined way. A technology requires sometimes to determine a method to support an object on a pin, hole or surface in order to immobilise an object to perform a specific operation. Does an official verb to describe an act of fastening an object exist? If 'pin' can mean the verb, would 'pining' mean a gerund?

Top answer

I think the appropriate choice probably depends on the means by which the object is fixed or fastened. In your kind of context, "pin" will probably suggest that the object is literally fixed by a pin. Is that what you want?
