A "verb" required with "temples"

Hi

I would like to know a suitable verb for temples - I mean, what happens to our temples when we are very angry? Do they palpitate? Could you please help me complete this sentence?

He felt his temples __________________ so hard that he feared that they would blow?

Is blow OK?

Thanks,

Tom

No: your pulse races, not your temples.
