A Tricky Sentence

There is the below sentence which seems so curious.

The basic idea of the paragraph is about the feature of peer pressure.

What I want to ask is whether the sentence with red italic is grammatical or not?

If grammatical, can you show me another relevant example sentence for me?

Thanks in advance.

It [= a report on peer pressure] also outlines a feature of peer pressure that can oftentimes lead to a bad opinion of oneself. This feature is when peer pressure is so strong that a person caves in, changes their view or behavior, but later hates themselves for doing so.

It's grammatical or ungrammatical depending on whom you ask. There is no agreement among grammarians. The problem stems from English having a pronoun for each ***, which should both be used when the reference can include both men and women: Everybody raises his or her hand.

  • Person , which occurs in your sentence, is a similar word: A person cannot return to his or her home town.
  • This is very awkward and consequently a plural pronoun (they, their) has long been used in such contexts even though strictly speaking it is ungrammatical since everybody and person are singular and the verb is singular as well.
