Choose the correct answer:

I think the correct answer is (b) , but my friend says the correct answer is (a) because "ten million pounds" is a sum of money. I want to know the correct answer. Please, give reason for your choice

I think it's (b). "Ten million pounds is spent" doesn't sound good. I'd go for (b), but I'm not sure. In Portuguese, we would definitely go for the plural. In fact, in Portuguese, if it were "one million pounds", the correct form would be in the singular (though not many people are aware of that). In English, I have to admit that, if it were "one million pounds", I would not be sure of whic
