A teacher Consider this plz

Class: Elementary

Aim: To teach students to use there is/ there are and How many

Theme: Describing a house

Hi, dear teachers
I am looking for some one to consider this lesson plan and tell me it's drawbacks. I'd be grateful to be told if there is any weakness.

Class: Elementary

Aim: To teach students to use there is/there are/ how many/ some place prepositions.

Theme: Describing house

Teaching Aids: (1) CD Dialogue, (2) Fill in the blanks activity

Notions/ Functions: Making statements and describing

New vocabulary: dinnig room, living room, upstairs, down stairs, kitchen, bed room,........ some of the appliances in the house.

Assumptions: They are familiar with the Present tense

Lesson Steps:

1) Explain how" There is/ are and how many" is constructed. Tell the students how it is used.

2) Use a large picture of home and appliances. Point to one of the figures and elicit from students information about that figure. Write the vocabulary on the board. Ask the class to repeat the new vocabulary altogether 4 or 5 times.

3) Using the picture and the students' vocabulary, introduce the target language using there is. E.g. there is one bedroom in the house,... how many bedrooms... Write examples on the board. Ask the students to repeat each sentence 4 or 5 times altogether

4) Encourage individuals to use the target language when you point at the picture

5) Class practice - students work in pairs to describe the figures on the board. Teacher walk around to observe students.

6) Give students the script for a dialogue. Play the short recorded dialogue between Sarah and her mother They are at the new house and talking about rooms and appliances in the house and describing them. Students listen and takes notes.

7) Elicit from students the descriptions of the home and appliances. E.g. There is a dresser in the living room.

8) Hand out short passage (based on CD dialogue) with gaps which the students complete to practise there is/are for describing house.

9) In groups of three, the students play a game. They take turns describing house and appliances. Teacher observes the students from a distance.

10) The students do a short writing in which their houses described as their homework.
