A teacher affects eternity

A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops. Most of us agree with this quote from American historian Henry Brooks Adams.

Hi,

Is it right to understand the bolded part in the above as "a teacher affects his students eternally?'

Besides, why is it "agree with this quote" instead of "agree on or agree to this quote?" Thanks.
