A tale of a dictator, short story, Part five

This is the fifth and last chapter of my short story. I would be glad if someone could proofread it and correct the mistakes.

The dictator ran into the river letting its waves wash the dirt and blood on his clothes. The murmur of water sounded like the most beautiful music in his ears and stimulated his senses. The river was so clean that he was able to see every stone on its bottom and even some fish which peacefully swam close to his legs. He was splashing in the water and laughing - a child who ended up in a fairy tale.
When the night came they went to sleep. The goatherd did not indulge in luxury and the dictator was forced to lie on a simple bed made of hay. However, he was so tired and affected by the new impressions that he fell into a deep sleep. Outside, the river was still murmuring and occasionally a owl hooted in the distance.

The next morning they went fishing. While sitting close to each other with their sticks in their hands the dictator asked the goatherd if he knew who the leader of the country was. The man did not even glance at him when he answered that he never cared about such things. "I have my own kingdom. My cows and goats." he said spitting into water. "Leaders will come and go but this nature will outlive everyone."
The dictator was relieved. He would have rather forgotten his past and started a new life. He understood how much he had missed trying to stay in power. He had lived in darkness all these years making not only other people unhappy but also himself. He tortured the others, but he had harmed himself more than anyone else. When the goatherd went into the nearby woods with his goats and he stayed alone, he started to cry. For the first time in his life tears brimmed in his eyes and streamed down his cheeks.The pain he was feeling was unbearable and he howled and asked God to forgive him his all wrongdoings and begged his victims to forgive him his evil deeds.

When the goatherd returned the dictator took off one of his diamond rings and gave it to him as a payment for his hospitality, but the old man refused to take it. He did not need neither diamonds nor money because they were worthless in this landscape. He told the dictator that he could stay in his home as long as he wanted. There were enough food and space for both of them.
Within weeks the dictator had learnt everything about animals, cereals, trees, bees and flowers. When the old man was sick or weak he went with his goats in the mountain and took care of cows and the house. He even learnt how to cook and received praises by the old man for his meals.

One morning the dictator woke up and when he did not see the goatherd around he ran into his bedroom and found the old man lying motionless in his bed. Understanding that the man was dead he started to cry and kiss his cold body all over. The old man was not only like a father to him but also he was his teacher, and his best friend. He buried him with his own hands and continued to take care of the house and animals. For the rare visitors and passers by he was known as the simple and humble goatherd whose hospitality and friendliness were highly praised.

Two months after the crash, the police had found the wreckage of the plane. There were astounded because there were no traces of the dictator. Could it be that the animals have taken his body and hidden it in the mountains? Could it be his enemies who did not want to see him properly buried? Could it be some mysterious powers who wanted to punish him finally when he was dead? After all who cared about his fate? There was already another leader sitting in the palace and more cruel than the previous one.
The dictator never thought of returning. As long as he could sit by the river, feel the waves lapping against his feet, drink water from his own well and walk with his goats in the mountains he was one of the luckiest humans in the world.
