A stray dog got after her and she ran screaming on the top of her lungs.

Hi

Do you find this sentence natural? Any suggestion is welcome.

As she turned the street a stray dog got after her and she ran screaming at (on?) the top of her lungs.

Thanks,

Tom

"screaming at the top of her lungs" is a lovely expression! For me, the main problems are the verbs "turned" and "got after". Do you mean "As she turned into the street" (she was walking/driving along a different street before)?

  • We don't say "got after".
  • You could say "a stray dog ran after her" but you've said "ran" in the next part.
