Vocabulary

a steak is cooking/ is cooked

When a steak is cooked at a high temperature, more of its juices are evaporated.

Q) Is either "is cooked" or "is cooking" correct?
I was surprised that the verb cook is used like this.
1. While the pasta is cooking, prepare the sauce. (not is cooked?)
