A statement about

Could one consider
a. 'He was not a communist.'
a statement about his communism?

I think one might call it 'a statement about his supposed communism', but if his communism was inexistant, the statement couldn't be about 'his communism'.

Many thanks.

I don't understand your problem. We cannot know whether he was really a communist or not; as it stands, the statement is just the writer's opinion.

Thank you very much.

It is indeed, but is it a statement about 'his communism' even though it is saying that such a thing did not exist?

It does not seem logical to me, but maybe it is only me.

Many thanks.

Perhaps. In any case, I fail to understand your concern.
