A Soilders Choice

A Soliders Choice

You get a phone call its your time to leave. Your family weeps as you touch their sleeve.

Not knowing how long you'll be gone. Not knowing when or if you'll come home.

You make it there with many days gone by. When you think of you family you start to cry.

You're scared like never before as you start this journey they call war.

Your letters to home are filled with words of simple and time; just waiting for someone to fire the next line.

The long days turn into dreary nights as your whole platoon tries to rest and pray in fright.

One day you're faced with a task. You come upon a child with a gun and a mask.

Do you fire or let him fire first. Your heart fears the worst.

You close your eyes and aim your gun; hoping the child would just run, You know what you have to do the answer is clear to you.

The childs lifeless body falls to the ground and it's him you put your arms around.

Removing his mask you began to shake. Its your heart that aches with every breath you take.

You close your eyes and ask God why. You question your faith as days go by.

You think of the child whose life you took. You had no choise or second look.

Your life as you return home will never be the same. You've just heard of the birth of your son you still have to yet to name.

Once again you question your faith and ask God why, one son was born and another had to die.

You look down at your son with tears running down your cheeks and listened when God started to speak.

"This child I have gave to you to have and to hold, to love, to protect. and help him have a good life; and for the son that died; You gave him back to me so I can show him all of the things your son will get from you"
