A small note

Yes. I taught the subject of English to XXX grade from March, 2016 until their long tests started. Sometimes letter, then again, the subject was given to me, and I taught it till the end of the session.

Please tell me; is the note written in natural English? What about the punctuations? Are they correct, too? How the sentence 'the subject was given to me' can be written in active voice?
