A singer is a Job or a person ?

Please look at this sentence.

" In the comedy series The Stage, Alfred will portray the character of Donald Williams, an aspiring singer who does whatever it takes to land a career at Park Studios, a company at center on the country's entertainment industry."

In "whatever it takes to land a career at Park Studios", what is the pronoun of "IT" indicating ? "An aspiring singer" ? A singer is a person, Can I receive the pronoun of "IT" for a person ?
or is it indicating "a career or a job" ? or just "becoming a singer" ?
