A simple question of negative sentence

Hi! In this article Election 2016: Lessons of the debate from The Economist(http://www.economist.com/news/leaders/21707927-first-presidential-debate-underlined-how-much-donald-trump-diverges-long-held-republican).

Last sentence in first paragraph:
MUCH analysis of the first presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton focused on Mr Trump’s boorishness. Mrs Clinton accused him of having called a beauty queen “Miss Piggy”. Mr Trump explained the next day that the lady in question had “gained a massive amount of weight”. No one in the audience, which included 85m Americans and many others around the world, was reminded of the Lincoln-Douglas debates.

what does this "no one" mean? In my opinion, it looks like to mean nobody in America was reminded of Lincoln-Douglas debates. But that is impossible on account of this article's keystone. It is self-evident that Americans did be reminded of this well-known series big debates.

Could you please tell me what's wrong with my comprehension? Thanks.

The Lincoln-Douglas debates were mature discussions of serious and substantial issues. The sentence in bold is saying in an ironic way that no-one in the audience last week thought that the Trump / Clinton debate was a mature discussion of serious and substantial issues.
