Speech & Pronunciation

A short video and two questions

0 Hi,02br
00this is a duplicated post. I posted this in the grammar section, but since no one seems to care about this there, I decided to post it here too. Here's the original post.02br
00PS: the character speaks pretty fast, maybe listening with headphones will help notice strange features or slight variations in pronunciation.02br

00Hi, 02br
00I decided to post this question here, because it is about comprehension... but it involves grammar. Move it to the pronunciation section if you think it is not ok to have it here.02br
00Ok, this is a video.02br

00The last things he said, according to subtitles and transcripts:02br
01b00Oh boy, 01u00I've02u00 never gotten a package this big. 01u00I've02u00 always wanted to have a huge package.02b02br
02br
00This is what I heard, instead:02br
01b00Oh boy, 01u00I'd02u00 never gotten a package this (?date). 01u00I'd02u00 always wanted to have a huge package.02b02br
02br
00Questions:02br
01b001 - What does he actually say?02br
02b
002 - Regardless of what he says, in that exact situation, would both 01u00the present perfect02u00 and 01u00the past perfect02u00 be ok?00 (I've never gotten... I've always wanted - I'd never gotten... I'd always wanted)02br
02br
00My answer: I think he uses the past perfect, but the present perfect would have been ok too in that situation. But I'm confused... maybe the past perfect doesn't sound very good. 0230hrefhttp://www.filenanny.com/files/44f7b9c9f14e0/package.avi

0 I can't open the file (corrupted) but generally speaking, you wouldn't use past perfect for this unless you were describing something that happened in the past. For example, if you were an adult musing over your reaction to a package you received when you were 10 years old. You can't use it for current events.

00I tried to download my video, and I had no problems. It worked. Maybe thre was a problem during the download or your player can't decode the file. That would be strange though, it's in XVID.02br

00thank you for watching my video 05002br

00The fact is that listening to it just using PC speakers, it is difficult to hear some sounds. Listening with my headphones, it seems to me that he could well say either "I've" or "I'd", he says that too fast. And the way he pronounce "big"... I think he wants to say "big", but it doesn't really pro

0Ah, South Park 05000. They do speak in rather odd voices, (especially Cartman) so don't expect standard pronounciation.010id2

0 I wouldn't expect proper grammar either. Don't forget they are supposed to be foul-mouthed slang-using odd little 8 year old children. 0-

10That is what I was thinking about the grammar thing. For the 2nd part, didn't know that. As I found several episodes pretty funny and wanted

0 Yeah, Cartman pronounce words in a strange way (he says "mom" almost like "ma'am"). The others have normal pronunciations, in general (apart from Kenny, of course, LOL).02br
02br
00But the grammar is ok, as far as I know. They don't talk like 8 year olds, they just talk like everyone else. And it is not childish, I think it is less childish than every other animated cartoon
