a short one

Let's have a look at the following setnences :

1) The village in which he lives is a beauty-spot.

2) The village he lives in is a beauty-spot. (no "which" here)

I was wondering whether another option would be possible :

3) The village which he lives in is a beauty-spot.

and what about this one :

The house in which we were staying... / The house we were staying in... / The house WHICH (?) we were staying in...

best wishes,

thanks ! :-)

another thing has come to my mind... another question about "that vs which";

in most cases "which" and "that" are used interchangeably... can anyone tell me when I HAVE to use only "which" and "only" that ? in other words - I need some examples (or rules) telling me in which situations I cannot use "which" and "that" interchangeably...
