A sentence without 'a' and 'no' or 'not'

Hi,

Could you please tell me how to explain the difference between these two sentences?

1.The night is very dark.

2.The night is a very dark.(I know, that the 'a' isn`t necessary but how can I explain it to a student?)

And the difference between these ones too:

1. There are no books on the table.

2.There are not books on the table.

Thanks
