Grammar

a sentence which is mindbogglingly confusing....^^

'the speech patterns you actually hear decode the brainwave matrix which has been fed into your mind by your Babel Fish'

I found this in 'the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy' it's confusing, isn't it? Is it grammatically wrong in any way?

On first reading one is unsure whether the subject noun phrase ends with the word "hear" or with the word "matrix", so backtracking may be necessary to determine that it really does end with "hear".
It's grammatically correct, though.
