Anon, I'd like to disagree with you. In fact, I pretty much think any rule that begins with "never" or "always" is very likely to be a bad rule, because there are exceptions to everything. Occasionally beginning a sentence with "And" or "But" can be an effective technique, but like all such techniques, if over-used, it loses effectiveness and looks lazy.
