a sentence involving both "that" and "which"

Teachers, please look at the paragraph below:

"He looked at the sheets of papers that had been knocked off the table during their scruffle and which now lay scattered across the floor."

My question is, is it okay to change "which" to "that" and if not, please tell me the reason. Thank you~Emotion: smile

I think there is nothing changed. " that clause " is noun complement that modfies the sheets. The relative clause " which " refers back to the sheet of papers.

I think you probably need "paper" in the singular here; and "scruffle" should probably be "scuffle" (unless they were particularly badly dressed).
