Then, I guess "This is the place where I put my shoes" and "This is the place (that) I put my shoes on" are right, but "This is the place I put my shoes" wrong. Could you confirm whether my grammatical judgement on each of the sentences is correct?

These are fine:

This is the place (that / where) I put my shoes. (A shoe box in the closet.)
This is the place (that / where) I put my shoes on. (A chair in the bedroom.)

If "This is the place I put my shoes" is right, could you tell me why "This is the school that I used to go" is wrong? I can't understand why the former doesn't need any preposition while the latter need the preposition, 'to'.

Here or there becomes "this place" or "that place" when you make the main clause a dependent clause:

I put my shoes there. -> That (or "there") is the place I put my shoes.
I went to school here. -> This (or "here") is the place I went to school.

Place can be used as a regular noun as a direct object or prepositional

Or, should it be "That/There is the place I met him in two years ago?"
