A recent review

Hi,

I'm trying to work out why it is acceptable to say "A recent review found a number of inconsistences in our data" and "A recent review identified a number of inconsistences in our data" when the review didn't find/identify them, the people carrying out the review did. Can anybody explain that to me, please? Thanks
