A re these tenses ok?

Hi
Could you please correct these tenses?

Betty was sleeping deeply when her father came in. He was thinking how to break the news to her on his way home. He woke her up kindly so that he would not frighten her. If he had told her about his decision a month before, he would have probably avoided all that troubles.

We are all here to help. But when we find what looks suspiciously like homework (with different parts posted in two different website forums), then I for one am reluctant: giving you the right answers does not help you to learn why the given tense is wrong. If you want to say, which tenses you think are wrong and why....
