I am not sure this is a right place to bring this question, but English is my second laguage in any way.
I am reading the 1987 annual report of Berkshire Hathaway.
The chairman wrote;
Indeed, businesses can be misread: Witness the European reporter who, after being sent to this country to profile Andrew Carnegie, cabled his editor, "My God, you'll never believe the sort of money there is in running libraries."
This should be an quip, but I don't get it. Would anyone explain it?

Hello Kanjin My guess is that the reporter mistook the money Carnegie had donated to Carnegie Libraries for money he had made from them. But others may have a different view! MrP

My guess is that the reporter mistook the money Carnegie had donated to Carnegie Libraries for money he had made from them.
But others may have a different view!

Yes indeed, and a very funny quip. Andrew Carnegie-- known for his wealth and the library program he instigated (and bearing his name). The reporter connected the two facts rather illogically.
