A Question about the usage of 'of'.
Which one is right? Or, are they both good?
1. To the west of Japan is the country China.
2. To the west of Japan is the country of China.
1. To the west of Japan is the country China.
2. To the west of Japan is the country of China.

There is nothing to explain. If you wish to write it that way, then the preposition is required. Personally, I find even #2 rather stilted. Nowadays, I would write:
China lies to the west of Japan.
China lies to the west of Japan.
