A question about medical trial

What does it mean that a time perspective of a medical trial is PROSPECTIVE??

That it will start in the future?(Umm..does that need any emphasis?LOL)

I suggest that it means proposed or presumed.

I find that a bit cryptic.

According to Merriam-Webster, it seems to me the relevant definitions are:

perspective ~ point of view
prospective ~ likely to be specified in the future; expected
