A question about 'either'

'If anyone cares to join me in this campaign, either now or in the near future, they will be welcomed gratefully.'

Does that sentence above have any faults? My friend says there is a problem with the use of 'either' but I don't agree...plz help me

It seems OK to me, though either is not really necessary here; and I would probably omit the first comma-- would that help your friend?
