A question

I need to know, what all things we should keep in mind while narrating a story.

Sometimes we use present tense, when we are talking about past. I dont understand this funda.

The way you write the tense depends on how you make the setting. If its an earlier time in history then you would use the past tense, but occasionally you will have to use the present tense. But if you are writing about a time in the present, then its just going back to writing in the tense needed at the time.
