A puzzling sentence

Find and correct the mistake in the following sentence:

If the money he had been enough , he'd have bought a new car.

My answer :

If the money ,he had, had been enough , he'd have bought a new car.

I would prefer saying, 'If he had had enough money, he would have bought a new car.

If the only thing yo can o is change the punctuation, then use this:

If the money he had had been enough, he'd have bought a new car.

The relative clause "he had" is a defining relative clause. It is not set off by commas.
