A puzzling question

Which is correct: the princess' palace or the princess's place?

I think both are OK. Am I right?

Top answer

If you would say the "s", write it. It is really that simple. In this case, it's the princess's palace, and the version without the extra "s" is wrong by any rule you follow in this matter.

The second one (underlined) is the correct one. Singular nouns always add 's to form the possessive. It doesn't matter what letter they end in.

boss - boss's / Fred - Fred's / sheriff - sheriff's / Iris - Iris's
