A purchase

When I pay for a service, can I call that a purchase? Are there other terms I can use for that?

Thanks.

Interesting question. We usually 'hire a service' or 'employ a service' or 'engage a service', but none of those suggests a good noun for the action. You could of course call it 'an expense' or 'a charge'.
