A plated sandwich

After what seems like hours she heads for the table, pushing the walker with one hand, holding a plated sandwich in the other.

Hi,

Does "a plated sandwich" in the above mean "a sandwich laid on a plate?" Thanks.

Hi, That seems to be the meaning, but I've never seen the word 'plated' used like that before. Clive

I agree with Clive on the meaning and the usage. I wouldn't expect to be understood using expression like that.

Another possibility is that the sandwich is wearing armor "plates," and the context is a meeting of the Knights of the Round Table.... ;-)
