A photo worth a thousand words, which I can see especially, in Whistler's mother portrait. The dark colors of the portrait, like the gray old wall, the fully covered black dress his mom was wearing, the wrinkles of her face, her old hair cover, the dark old curtain with some gray flowers. she was looking away, her hands were closely above each other, even the picture on the wall has dull colors a small old step under her feet. All that repetitions of the black and gray colors her dress, curtain, wall, floor, shoo, the photo on the wall even her head cover was a dull weight, we can notice as well the repetition in showing her gray hair, her wrinkles, her old hands and her old look, and how she was sitting tide her legs and her hands. All the details that I noticed and the repetitions drive me to wondered, why did the artist choose to use all of this darkness? why do I see a lot of sadness? However, choosing his mom when the young lady did not come might show how he appreciate, love, and bilevel in his mom, and how she is a very supportive mom that believes in her son to spend three days seating whenever he is in the mood to paint. How sacrifice and tenderness she was, that shows the similarity in the relation between the mom and her son. I can see a lot of sadness, power and believe in his portrait. It looks like he was showing the appreciation and respect to his mom for raising him and his brothers, showing how much he respects her black dress while she didn't change the color since his dad pass away, he is fighting the poverty and sadness in this portrait just like how his beloved mom fight to raise them up, after each detail that is a very unique and great one.
