.. a photo that shows or showed

Please tell me which is correct or more appropriate in case that both are correct.

> He sent me an email with a photo attached that shows / showed his girlfriend.

In my opinion, both are correct, but "shows" means I still have the photo, while "showed" means the picture might have been lost or I don't bother to indicate whether I still have it or not.

What would you say ? Please help me.
