a people/peoples

(h) As a people, they have not distinguished themselves. However, there are a few individuals who have made significant contributions.
(i) Of all the peoples living in that area, only the Overlanders survive to this day.

Any thing wrong with the above sentences ? If not, can you tell me why ?

people has the definition persons, but it also has the definition ethnic group. It is the second of these that applies in your examples.
