A pair of + Plural or Single

A pair of sandals? or a pair of sandal?
A pair of sunglasses? or a pair of sunglass?

I remember it was plural. But I wonder if it's a fixed rule?

Top answer

A pair of something is normally plural. I can't think of an example of "a pair of + singular".

Because 'a pair' means two, you need the plural forms.
