a or the?

"once you can see a car like a ferrari" or "once you can see a car like the ferrari"?

I think if it would be for example, "once you can see a car like the Ferrari 458 Italia", "the" would be good, but since now no particular model was meant, "a" is good. Or i am wrong?

The indefinite article is more general, there. You could use either article.

(Also, the idea of "a sentence expresses a complete thought" is somewhat simplistic". For sure that some people would not call "Help!" or "Fire!" a sentence, but both express complete thoughs.)
