A noun for a kind of city

I saw a noun recently that meant a large city completely dominating the political entity in which it is located, e.g., Buenos Aires in Argentina, Chicago in Illinois, Copenhagen in Denmark, etc.

It's not mega-city, but I cannot remember what it is. Anyone know offhand.

No, that's not it, nor is megalopolis. It was a new one on me, from wikipedia's "word factory."

Hi,

That's two words.

And you asked for a noun.

It should not be 'primate' city; it should be 'human' city... LOL... A city can only be called primate city when it has smaller cities around it. If the city is the online city in the area then it cannot be called a primate city.

It's still a noun, but I rmisremembered, thinking it was hyphenated.

What do you call such a city on the planet of the apes then? Notice I omitted Singapore for that very reason though it came to mind.

That is "only city" not "online city," I am just thinking of the "internet city" in the "republic of internet." Lol.
