A non-standard "me" or "I" situation

Today, someone sent me a message containing the sentence "The only person affected by me hating them is me." Then, they updated their sentence by saying "I should've said I, not me."

Which is correct? Or, at least, more correct?

1) The only person affected by me hating them is me.
2) The only person affected by me hating them is I.
