A nodal role......

Hello. Could anyone explain to me what "nodal role" means? I found the phrase in an online artcile, and online definitions of nodal (Having to do with a node - one online dictionary said...) that I found don't appear to match the definition of the nodal in the context. The phrase was found in the following sentence:

A leftist position for Nicaragua and the rest of Central America in this new century would have to recognize the nodal role played by the market and capital in these times of globalization.

Hi, Rather to my surprise, it's in my dictionary, too. A nodal role seems to be a central role from which other things/features/activities grow or develop. Clive

Rather to my surprise, it's in my dictionary, too.

A nodal role seems to be a central role from which other things/features/activities grow or develop.
