A native speaker please about formal greetings

My friend is doing a research on greeting in both Arabic and English

We have a greeting in Arabic "_Basherna Ank"_ when used the person greeting is expecting the other person to reply with good news about him/her self. The asker is always expecting a positive reply.

My question is there an equivalent to this greeting in English in which the other person is expected to share some good news.
(formal or informal)

Thank you !

The standard greetings in English (both formal and informal) are neutral, since it might be embarrassing for the respondent if he has no good news but has just experienced a personal tragedy, for instance. What's new? What's up?
